Lion Symbolism

Lion Symbolism

“I walk around the pond and come face to face with a massive lion. It stands up and I am instantly reminded of Aslan from The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. He turns around and indicates that I am to follow him into the forest.” ~ Snippet from a shamanic journey I took on behalf of a client.

If a child can have a crush on an anthropomorphic character, then mine was on Aslan. Even reading the Narnia Series at a young age, I instinctively understood what he was. It was far more than his gentle nature. I knew, even if I could not articulate it, that he represented Unconditional Love.

Rereading The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe as an adult, it is blatantly obvious that Aslan represents Jesus, and the killing of Aslan on the rock table the crucifixion. C.S. Lewis was not exactly subtle. But as I child, all I knew was that some Great Loss had occurred. I sobbed with grief.

My 10 year old self craved the Unconditional Love that Aslan represented. As a fifty-nine year old shamanic guide, I blessed to experience it.
